Bottleneck of PCIe x1

How much GPU is too much GPU for a single PCIe x1 lane?

The reason I'm asking is because I just stumbled across the ViDock 2, which is basically an external GPU that you can connect to a laptop via Expresscard. Since Expresscard is connected to a PCIe x1 lane, I'm thinking that the graphics performance might be limited by this, but I want some evidence. So, does anyone know?

I've googled this to hell and back, and I know at least one manufacturer (Albatron) sells a 9500GT with a PCIe x1 slot only. The problem is, I can't find a single benchmark of this card. I was hoping to compare the x1 benchmarks to the regular benchmarks to see how bad a bottleneck might be.

There's also a handful of benchmarks using the vidock itself at this forum thread:

All in all, it doesn't seem to be worth the price to me. Keep in mind that it does support ExpressCard 2.0, though, so once laptops that make use of that come out you'll see better performance.

n/m thought I had identified a PCIe 1x 8400GS with DVI out, but it was not
