They both got it bad. I can't find any skunk shampoo but a lot of people are telling me different homemade remedies like douche powder, tomatoe juice and vanilla extract. What is the best one? I searched and found a site that says that a mix of hydrogen peroxide, bakinging soda and liguid soap is the best.

By the way the 2 dogs were supposidly just playing with the skunk. Like the three of them were hanging out.

Tomato juice is popular and I had a friend that used it. The recipe you found I hear though is the most recommended.

Call your vet.

Be prepared to deal with for a while regardless of which approach you take. It just ain't that easy to get rid of the smell. If you have shaggy dogs, be ready give them a tight crew cut.

Good luck.

Tomato juice is worthless. The only effective remedy is a combination of peroxide, baking soda and dish soap. Google it for the ratios.

My aunt is a pro dog groomer.

Get 2 big bottles of Scope mouthwash and wash them in it. Let it sit in thier fur for 10 minutes or so, rinse and repeat if necessary.

That's what I used, IIRC. Didn't completely get rid of the horrid stench, but made it a lot better.

If you mix it right it's just about 100% effective. The trick is to get it right and to use it immediately. If it stands for a few minutes it loses its effectiveness and the longer you wait the less it works.

QFT, get Scope is works.

How about Listerine. I got a big jug of that at home from Costcos. It is orange flavor.

Groomer's Goop. I don't know where you can get it, but we've got it.. You apply a generous amount to the animal's fur (if you've got big dogs, take half of a tub and divide it between the two dogs), let it work it's magic for an hour and shower them. No soap, no nothing, just rinse them really good with water and then towel dry them. After that, they'll just smell like wet dog, but the skunk's smell will be gone. :)

They did an experiment on mythbusters about removing skunk smell. It turns out that mixing dish detergent, baking soda and hydrogen peroxide woks very well.

Get the one in the middle.

Thanks, but I need this stuff tonight. I will get some of that stuff for the next time.

In that case, use hydrogen peroxide, baking soda or self raising flower (but the latter doesn't work so well, use only if you don't have baking soda), let that sit for a while, rinse them with water and then wash them again with baby shampoo. :)

Thanks a lot! The peroxide won't bleach out his fur, right?

The chemicals in the musk are thiols and thioesters. A good base will cleave the thioesters, so if you have some lye or whatnot that will work wonders. After that, hit it with bleach or peroxide, which will oxidize the free thiols to non-smelly sulfones and sulfoxides. Repeat as necessary.

usually just laying down and trying to remain calm will get rid of the side pains from the laughter. if that doesnt work well don't worry, im sure youll stop laughing eventually.
