Both Cable and DSL for double the bandwidth?

I was wondering if it would be possible to somehow connect both a DSL and a Cable line to a server to get a combined bandwidth. The cable and dsl broadband are run by different companies, and would run to different CO's. Is there anyway to do this?

NO NO NO. The search button is your friend. You could buy a router as expensive as a car, but it wouldn't be worth it.

Actually, there's a variety of ways that work quite nicely to do this. Do a search and you'll find there's a SOHO router for about $300 that has to WAN ports that load balances and a piece of software by Fat Pipe Networks that allows a PC to do the same.

Beware though, that if you are planning on trunking 2 lines, of say 800Kb (100KB per) you shouldn't ever expect to see a 200KB download. You'll do (approximately) half the requests out each side of the dualy. So you can pull down 100KB and still get another 100 from another site, or rather, on another stream.

Yeah, load balancing would only help you out if you actually had a LB box for a few servers(Such as Anand'sconfig)

Only then would all the traffic be routed to the less bogged down of the two connections and send the request to hte corressponding server. Then, and ONLY then would you see DOUBle the bandwidth.

You could also use 3com or intel cards, most of which support bonding, but that only serves as a redundant connection or for load balancing a server or line....if one server is fast enough(SCSI for access times, you could use the load balncer and send all requests to just one server, but other different lines😀
