Hey folks... I'm driving up to Boston w/ my gf for a couple of days just to get away. The thing is, I haven't been there in a while, and I have no idea what area to stay in, or what to see. I have been to the Harvard area, but I'm thinking I want to check out the city and all the historic stuff. Also, I need to find a hotel in a section of the city that is not completely dead at night. Any suggestions?

thanks!

Above forementioned choices, plus

The Harpoon Brewery tour

Fannuel Hall

Eat at the Top of the Hub (top of the Pru). Other good places are Bartley's burgers in Harvard square, and for chinease, best in town is Chang-Sho in Davis Square.

Would re-check Harvard Square...its changed A LOT over the past few years.

For nightlife, it's Landsdowne Street in the Fens. There's Jillians and two other nightclubs (names are escaping me now) that you can hit. One is more upscale and one is more a rock club. Also is the club owned/run by Areosmith there on Landsdown as well. If you get REALLY lucky, they stop by from time to time (2-3 times a year) and do a performance out of the blue.

Hope that helps.

TJ out.

Yup. Freedom Trail.

If you want to see all the historic stuff just find the freedom trail and walk it. It will take you everywhere.

Be sure to check out Mother Goose's grave along the way. (Really is there)

As for an area not "dead at night" the city closes up shop at about 1 AM so you dont really have to worry about that too much.

theres 'the place', and 'hong kong' hong kong has this huge scorpion bowl which is just a bunch of liqour thrown together but its huge, and good...

theres a hostel i think on commonwealth ave, that during the school year is a dorm, you can probably stay there, i know there is also a hostel across the street from the fleet center.

then there is the swissotel which is in the ghettos, but is close to chinatown, and the theater district.

you should also check out boston commons....its nice there...

That's nonsense! all (most) the bars in Boston are open until 2am... and if you still want to get your drink on, head to chinatown and get some scorpion bowls until the sun comes up :D

I suggest staying around the faneuil area, as there are ALL different types of bars/clubs around, so you're sure to find one that suits your taste.

Also, Aerosmith is in town this weekend for a concert on Monday, so you could see them in and aroudn the city.

I thought last call in Boston was 12:30?

But if you do want something to drink after, Spooner is right. Go to Chinatown and ask for "Iced Tea".

Tha Faneuil Hall area is a definite, the Omni IMAX theatre at the Museum of Science is cool too.

The club Aerosmith owned (Mama Kins) is no longer there, the current name escapes me. Others on the Landsdowne strip include Axis, Avalon, Bill's Bar and Venus de Milo.

Never actually stayed in town so can't help with that part.

My Wife and I are going to Portland Maine and Boston on Monday and Tuesday also. We booked at a Hampton Inn ourselves. As a general rule of thumb if you're not sure about where to stay, Hampton Inns and Fairfield Inns are always a safe bet. They usually charge between $80 and $135 a night depending on location. If you don't mind going a few miles north the Hampton Inns in Woburn (I-95 and I-93 junction) and Peabody (I-95/Salem area) are usually the less expensive ones but they are not exactly hopping areas. The ones downtown would be a better bet for that.
If you're going to be there Monday or Tuesday and want to hook up for dinner or something pm me. We always like meeting the other wierdos from this place. :)
