Actually no, Boston IS the greatest sports city , according to ESPN, suck it you non-boston plebes :p

Unless you actually want to go to a game without having to take out a second mortgage to pay for the tickets.

I always wondered what the fan ratio is like in Boston.

people in pretty much every New England state seems to identify with Boston teams, whereas NYC teams seem to be limited to NY, northern NJ, and southern CT.

Uh, of course?

That's the only thing that irritates me, they pretend like it's this David and Goliath thing, with tiny Boston going toe to toe with NY, but the market is pretty much all of New England.

Other than that, you have to give them their due, they have been the best sports city over the last 10 years.

But they still suck

The David and Goliath thing came more from the fact that the Red Sox were inept for so long.

and the Cubs always were, and remain far more inept. The thing that annoyed me was that the Cubs were easily the most inept sports franchise, but the lame Boston fans were hell-bent on convincing you that their beloved Red Sox were forever cursed and easily the most tragic team out there.

what a load of horseshit.

I don't think anyone doubts it now after the Steve Bartman thing.

I don't get this picture. You have the pics of one team that's a champion and another that's been sucking for years. What are you trying to prove?

Sorry, but I think my Mets have claimed that title 2 years in a row.

grew up a Redskins fan--they were basically everyone's team in my area growing up--central-southeast area. Maryland down to SC.

Mets--because I started collecting baseball cards c. 1987 and there were a lot of Mets, lol. and Darryl Strawberry is my favorite.

Always liked the Knicks. I was sympathetic to Charlotte, but I didn't really care about them. :\

Cubs--always liked them; but living next to Wrigley for ~5 years turned me on. That, and the days of Chip & Stoney announcing those games  Roommate and I were putting on our shoes to go out into the street and party, then Bartman happened. We paused, sat down, watched.... :(

Chargers--The moment Rivers became a Charger. So, at least, you can say I'm no bandwagoner. :p

...and yeah, I am very much used to teams that break your heart. My team, more than anything, is NC State. I was born to deal with shit like that.

I would have been very sympathetic to the Red Sox and their similar plight, had it not been for a college roommate of 3 years that was a die hard Red Sox fan (awesome guy, though), and learning of the insanity that comes with New England fandom. the fans and their unbelievable rationality turned me off.

though. to be fair, if anyone deserves to be a die hard irrational Red Sox fan, it is my pal and former roommate. This is him, being carried off the field in Jim Rice's arms:

That Dallas is a better sports town.:) Sorry, 5 superbowl rings>all Boston sports teams. I also threw the current NBA champs in there for good measure.

Sorry, but the current decade of the Patriots is far greater than the Aikman Cowboys, I must say.

Landry and Staubach, that's something else.

Dallas has one team--the Cowboys. I loved the Mavericks this year, sure....but come on.

93 cowboys vs any year patriots team. Who wins?
New England is a great team but the 93 cowboys would of ran for over 200 yards against them. I have never seen an offensive line like the cowboys had back then. I think I could of got 5+ yards on the holes they were opening up back then.

in addition to long histories in the big 4 pro sports, boston/new england has a very active college and amateur sports culture. i'd say it matches up very well against larger and warmer areas like florida, texas and california.

edit: the rings in the picture are poor imitations

Error: Objectivity not found. Claims dismissed.

Edit: Just kidding*
