My parents just moved into a new apartment and they can't take their cat(Percy) with them unless they have him declawed, which none of us want to do. None of the shelters in the area want to take any more animals, and anywhere they take him, he will probably be put down. They haven't been able to find any other options, so it's either declaw or have him euthanized. None of my family would like to see him declawed, we don't think it's very nice to do to cats. (And no, definitely won't have him euthanized) So we're trying to find him a home ASAP.

So if you're interested in a nice adult cat, this is your opportunity. He's very nice, not some insane feral feline warlord, and overall a good cat. Up to date on shots and healthy and all that. Middle-aged, perhaps 8 years old. I don't have any pics(sorry), but he is a 'tuxedo cat'- black except for a white stripe that runs all the way down his belly and white feet. Long haired.

Please send me a PM if you're interested and willing to give a nice home to this cat.

Edit: Some people on ATOT are tards. I thought it would be self-explanatory from the fact that I was posting this that we most definitely do not want to do either option, and under no circumstances would choose to euthanize him.

Who inferred that? That's the last thing we want to do.

He's also saying that if he can't get rid of it they would resort to killing the cat rather than simply declawing it.

No, I'm not. See my post directly above.

What is so horrible about declawing a cat?

My gf is getting her cat declawed. She gave him a chance but yet he continues to scratch her and she can't have that anymore.

Would you like to have all your teeth removed? Or, say, every other finger? It's cruel, and we'd rather find a new home for him than put him through that. I'm far from being a PETA member, but I don't think declawing a cat is particularly nice.

Think if someone took both your hands and chopped off the tips of all of your fingers.
That is what declawing does to a cat.

Actually, from the wording in your OP it sounds very much like if yall can't find another home yall with euthanize instead of declaw.

Yes it does, but who cares, what needs to be done needs to be done. In the meantime, maybe we could get some real, helpful, responses so the cat doesn't need to be killed in the first place. Sheesh, most of you people seriously need to take some reading comprehension courses.

Well whinermcvenger, all of us lacking reading comprehension are at least bumping the thread, so maybe someone in boston that wants a cat will read it, so we're actually helping. check and mate.

Anyway, to those of you whining about how horrible declawing a cat is - no, it really isn't. Declawed cats are perfectly happy. Sure, the procedure itself kinda sucks, but once they recover from that (which is pretty quick btw) they are fine, happy, and certainly better than dead.

LOL! Declawing is like pulling off your fingernails.
Pulling the cats teeth out would be like having your teeth removed.

Are you kidding me?

Get the damn thing declawed. I've owned both and trust me, they don't give a shit.

If it is an indoor only cat just dewclaw it.

The cat will be fine.

As long as the cat is an indoor cat, declawing is not inhumane. The point at which declawing becomes absurd is if a cat ends up outside and unable to protect itself, IMO. It would be far less traumatic for the cat to be declawed than to be pushed off onto some stranger, in a new - unfamiliar place. :( If I were faced with the choice of having to declaw my cat or giving her up... I'd declaw her. I can't comprehend why anyone would choose giving up their companion like that. :(

edit: No offense intended, but if on the offhand chance you're doing this to just get rid of a cat you/your family don't want to spend the money to declaw, shame on you.

Both of my cats are front declawed and it didn't change their behavior in the slightest way.

We had the laser declawing done since the healing time is less.

It's been well over a year since it was done and they're just as loving and friendly as ever.

I would never even think of giving away my cats if the only option was to have them declawed, they're part of the family and it'd be like giving away a child almost IMO.

How about your parents move somewhere else or get the caps put onto the claws?
