I know gateway uses the BA 635 on many of it systems. My friend has offered to give me his set, but I don't know if I should take them. Are they any good?

well as far as sound quality they are smooth and warm but if u are someone who always has your spearkers on 10 you will probably be dissapointed in the bass response. When I listen to the occasional bass bloated mp3 there is a problem of control on the woofer..But for free do not hesitate..Likez sir said if u don't want them send em to me..;)

rbloedow, the BA635's are the baby brother to the MicroMedia's (now called BA790). Whereas the 635's have a 4.5" sub driver and 2" sat drivers, the 790's have a 5.25" sub and 2.5" sat. Max SPL of the 635 is 96dB, while the 790 is 101dB. Freq. response of the 635 is 55-20k, while the 790 is 50-20k (as reported by BA).

I have 'em and, honestly, at low volumes, they're much warmer sounding than my Klipsch v2.400.
