One of my boss' has sent out a mass email asking if anyone knew how to program the function keys. I know how to make them run shortcuts, but he wants F12 to type out his email address, just so wherever he is on the internet he can type it in just by hitting F12. Is this possible???

It's possible to do with a program running in the background that would pick up the keystroke and put it into the current highlighted text area. I think a Clipboard manager is a more logical solution though. Show him one of those and see if it is convenient enough for him.

someone else here recommended an IME manager, can make any key or combination of keys a macro... thinking of getting it for myself now, put those F keys to good use.

I always wondered why the F keys were assigned such obscure stuff. Why not the common things like Cut, Paste, Copy, Undo, Maximize, Minimize, etc.? I remember MS Word 2.x for DOS was like that. It was great!

Focus sells keyboards with 12 programmable "PF" keys that can hold upto 10 keystrokes (can't program in CTRL+ALT+DEL though :( ), I use thier now discontinued FK9000 and rather like it.

go to downloads.com and type in macro, limit your search to "free licenses"

there are about ten or so programs that easily enough accomplish whatcha need. shortkeys, keys, quick macros, etc...
