i know YOyoYO doesnt like bose, and after reading some links that he had i would tend to agree

but surely all bose products arent bad?

ok so this bose sound dock cost like $300, but since were english it only cost us about £160. now im not an ipod fan at all, but today i found myself with my bro's Ipod, and now im listening to Michael jacksons number ones on this bose sound dock

and FVCKING HOLY SH!T this things is beautiful, it sounds like a proper decent full size stereo system i cant believe how much sound is coming from it. iv got it cranked as high as it will go, with bass boost EQ on the IPOD and theres no distortion either.

since this post comprises more than 3 sentences......here cliffs

*not an ipod fan
*bored
*had bros ipod
*put it on my dads BOSE sound dock
*cranked it to max
*gobsmacked at the calrity and volume and power of the sound coming from it
*therefore not all BOSE products are sh!t

link for the people that dont know what the bose sound dock is

nope..........but thats not really any use to us. we dont have a massive selection of good radio stations like you do

we have about 3 decent ones, the best being BBC1 radio 1, and even thats only good at certain times, usually all the stations play crappy pop music.

we have no dedicated rock, jazz, techno, dance stations at all

I think the consensus is that Bose sound doesn't really suck, its just that its very overpriced for what you get.

Speak for yourself! Human voices coming from a "bass module"?? That certainly does SUCK.

Why dont you just hook it up to a stereo? You can get a pretty good stereo for 300$ plus the cord youll need... at least I can do that with my gfs Creative

Go listen to the same music from a CD through a real stereo system (with decent speakers) for comparison. Trust me, between the iPod and the Bose you're missing quite a bit of detail from that setup.

I've been looking at the Klipsch iFi since I have Klipsch RF3s and I love the detail they provide. Still, it's hard to justify since I can plug my iPod into my home theater system.

I probably wouldn't buy anything made by Bose, but I think audiophiles make too big a deal of hearing everything. If his dad is listening while he works or something, it's not going to matter much.

well maybe you guys have super high standards.....but i thought this thing was mighty impressive. the bass gets lost abit if your in another room, but when your in the same room (we have a large living room) the bass is quite potent, and for me the quality was very good.

sure there are better hifi's but you cant put a hifi in your hand luggage. not one this potent anyway

Only problem with bose is they use cheap parts and expensive marketing.
When looking at other system for the same price, the bose gets spanked. If you compare systems 1/3 of the price, the bose either still get's beaten or breaks even in terms of sound quality.

A Klipsch Promedia 2.1 would spank the Bose sounddock in terms of sound quality for less money.

In the end, if you are satisfied, great!

The whole paper cone thing is irritating I agree. However I do think that it is good for the industry that someone is taking a different approach to audio then the flat response across all frequency approach. They and B&W do more audio research than anyone else today. B&W would never do the psychoacoustics thing, and Bose clearly has no interest in making a 4-way box speaker. I got to talk to Dr. Bose one time and he showed me this sweet SV cylindrical subwoofer shaped thing that was able to sit in one spot and localize sound around the room with a special amplifier. I believe Yamaha is coming out with a product like that to sit above a TV and replace 5 speakers. Anyhow I am no audio expert so I have no understanding how his device worked, but when I was there it really sounded like sound was coming from all around me. That is the type of stuff they are working on he said.

Bose products aren't awful (though they're far from great) - it's the terrible price/performance ratio that earns them so much scorn, and rightfully so. They're much more about advertising than substance. It's a sad commentary on the state of society that they're so successful.

For the most part I agree with you, but you can plug an iPod into practically any radio and listen to it. You don't need to spend $300 to do that. I plug mine into a Tivoli single speaker radio at work and it sounds fine for background music. Or better yet, get a decent set of earbuds.

If you want a portable speaker system for the iPod the Bose sounddock isn't bad but it certainly isn't great. I think it's waaay overpriced personally.
