OK, against my better judgement I'll wade into this one. I have owned a Bose Acoustimass7 system. I thought it was pretty darn good. Then I built my first set of speakers. Playing them side by side I found that Bose makes vocals sound like someone screaming into a pillow. The lows have only one note at about 60 Hz, not an actual range. The highs? I found all kinds of new music that I didn't know was there before. My Bose have been given away to a friend who needed speakers with high SAF (spouse approval factor). Bose has great marketing (ever seen any other brand on TV?) but look closer - in stores Bose won't put itself next to a compteitor for direct comparison. You can build or buy much better for the same or less money.

Here's a little info: The Bose FAQ

COsts BOSE about $65 to make that set of speakers.

NO offense, but NO BOSE deal is ever a HOT deal.

Go spend some time with some audiophiles and see what they have to say!

No highs, no lows. It must be Bose.

I'm not a Bose fan myself, but this phrase is getting old.

it's getting old, but it is true. lets think about this logically. the frequencies a speaker can produce is related closely to the size of the speaker. smaller speakers can create higher frequencies, and larger speakers can pound out the low frequencies. Bose is trying to recreate almost the whole sound spectrum, with one speaker. so of course they are going to use a speaker adequate for frequencies somewhere in the middle. everything above and below get sacrificed.

and i don't even know what sub they are trying to use, but i assume its a 6 1/2" right? or a couple of 6 1/2" speakers. you can have 20 of them, it still does not matter. a 6 1/2" speaker is a midbass or at best a woofer, but not a subwoofer.

for $399 its pretty cheap, and if you really want it, go for it. but you can get better speakers for around $500 that will sound better probably than ANY system bose has at any price.

The Digitheatre DTS Speakers for $350 shipped sounds much better than Bose speakers at this level.

you guyz are so much the critics. the entire point of these speakers is to be small yet very affective. everyone here knows these are good speakers for the size. if boses only concern was loud, and mids and highs and lows...they would made some big fat ugly tower speakers. these are awesome if you want very small speakers = less clutter. i am much more impressed with these than a pair of huge ugly tower speakers. go ahead and flame me.....i have bose speakers, and 2 sets of towers....for the size/sound comparison the boses are good.

Yep, I just installed mine last week. Gotta get the optical cable to link to my PS2. For anyone that doesn't know, the Digitheatre DTS is a sweet setup.

There are far far better sattelite systems, and they can cost less to. Take for example the klipsch quintets or the paradigms cinema series. These are far better sounding systems, but still, they are geared towards home theater, not music. I got 4 pair of the klipsch from ubid for $29 each. They are still there, but now they start at $39.

How do they compare to the Klipsch 5.1s?

Mani: My $.02. Klipsch is a better gaming setup. For HT, I believe the Videologic sounds better.
