Bosch Platinum +4s

I'm think about buying some of these for my grand am. Does anyone here use these? How much performance gain does it give you?

You're not going to see any difference in daily driving, when compared to a regular new plug.

In my opinion, a sparkplug is a sparkplug.

The only difference is how long they will last. They do not affect performance unless something is wrong, either with the plug or the engine.

Gas milage is closely related to performance.

You might get a MPG if your current plugs already desperately need to be changed.

But compared to if he had replaced them with regular plugs - there woudn't be a difference. Hte only difference he'll see is if his current plugs are horrible.

The only thing that plats will get you is longer plug life. If you want that, don't bother for the +4, just get some basic platinum. If you're looking for higher performance, don't go platinum, go copper.

My car required some kind of platinum, so I figured I'd buy the original platinum plug, instead of a $4.00 Motorcraft. Hah! Damn engine started to miss after 10 months! Swapped in the $4.00 Motorcrafts, and all has been well for over a year.

Bosch had a guarantee on their plugs, so I took 'em up on it, and shipped mine back. Mofos never got back to me, so I contacted them. Their rep. said the plugs seemed to have been lost somewhere along the line, but made good on the warranty.

Both myself and a friend of mine have experienced one of the prods breaking off.

:Q

Luckily mine happened as I was changing it and so I was able to get it out. My friend's Jeep was not so lucky 🙁

Bosch +4s are all marketing. They have serious design problems. They aren't heat ranged correctly, I ran some briefly in my last car, and they caused detonation on the dyno. A friend of mine saw 2 of the three prongs melt off and fall into the combustion chamber. Again, due to too much heat.

Very poor product.

So what can I get to increase performance? My dad gave me his 2002 pontiac grand am se for my 20th bday so I dont need to get a new car. I just want to get the most out of it.

I ran a set of those in my Trans Am for a while. Wasn't long before they fouled out and made the car run like crap. Swapped in a set of AC Delco Rapidfires and the problems were over.

This happened on the regular Bosch Platinum's for me. It just caused my check engine light to come on because of a misfire.

Basically, you can't increase performance with new spark plugs except if the old ones are in bad condition.
