If cosmonaut Miss Volkav (Russia) and astronaut Mr. Yamaguchi (Japan) are both stationed on the ISS for a long assignment and decide one night or day (is there a difference?) to mix it up, and then Miss Volkav is still working on the space station when she has the baby; what nationality is the baby? I'm planning on a career change and need to know the answer before I get in trouble. Thank you.

The child will be a citizen of the both countries (I'd say) as long as there are no mutual relations that prohibit double citizenship (like it could be between USA and North Korea) - I have no details over this, maybe someone could help.
 
The keywords are Jus sanguinis and Jus soli. By the law of blood, children recieve the citizenship their parents have. There may be problems with double citizenship but most or all nations know the blood principle...

Ius soli means that anyone born on the soil of the land recieves the citizenship, a rule common for immigration-friendly nations. But it would not grant citizenship in this case because the birth doesn't happen in the area of national souvereignity.

Public international law says that it's possible to have no citizenship at all, but this state should be avoided by the countries.
 
I had a teacher in high school who had three citizenships; one of his parents was an American citizen, one from I think Canada, and he was born in Brazil.

It's not illegal to have sex in space. However, the astronauts are just as much at risk at making sex on the space station or in the shuttle as you would be making sex at your work. Like, if you are working cashier at a superstore, making sex on the cash register at rush hour.

I dont know... null grav sex could be pretty detrimental if you were to somehow thrust yourself into a protruding object.

It's not illegal to have sex in space. However, the astronauts are just as much at risk at making sex on the space station or in the shuttle as you would be making sex at your work. Like, if you are working cashier at a superstore, making sex on the cash register at rush hour.

I'd have to think that a cosmonaut/astronaut would be under a little more scrutiny, and thus less prone to "mix it up," than a cashier. 😛
 
My uncle who works for NASA told me they put birth control kits in the shuttle and on the ISS. I don't have anything to confirm that, but that seems like a good idea just incase something does happen. I mean, its got to get pretty lonely up on the ISS with just 2 people, and for 6 months at that 😛.

The child would have the citizenship of the parents, plus where it was born. Since it would be the first child born in space, it would be the only citizen, and therefore own all of space. Expect your telecommunication bills to go up.
 
IF there's a possibility of pregnancy in the space station. It is likely to say tha tthe future soon to be child must head back on earth to function normally, if it were born in space, I dont' know how the child will end up...nationality...hmmm it will be a space station child.. 🙂
 
Do You think the child would develope normally in the womb at zero G? I mean would the skeletal structure and muscle structure develope the same as a baby brought to term on earth?

Hmm I bet You could make up some awsome positions in Zero G sex lol I mean the need for a swing would be nill but then again strapping Yourself down would probably be wise so You dont hit a flight control panel in the heat of the moment hahahaha

Well honestly, I highly doubt the child will develop well in space, it well be deformed, or unable to live on earth. Due to zero gravity, there are consequences...without any force for the muscle or bone to come against with, the body itself will gradually eat up the calcium and shrink down the muscles gradually over time. Resulting of a 30 yr old adult having an old man bones, enough to get a broken hip while falling (if he/she was back on earth). Same as for the heart, without gravity, the heart muscles would weakened itself, since there is no down ward gravity pull for the heart to get a beating off, result a weaker heart..

Our bodies were created to be suitable in earth, not on space. Unless scientist founds a way to trick our body that we are on gravity,. we should be fine. But for now, were not. Humans can live on space, but for a limited of time.
 
lol I wonder what would happen if that kid went back into Earth. Being not used to the gravity, he might have a heart attack and die! 😀

Hey that sounds like a valid science project for NASA! I bet they already have the next group of astronauts doing simulations in those fancy hydraulic-motion simulators. After that, it's off to the official NASA swimming pool for some underwater exercises. And I am sure they'll hire some folks with personal experiences to act as consultants. 😛
