which states that the only way to heaven is through Jesus.

Why should this matter?

Shouldn't you have faith to serve god/righteousness? Not for some reward?

It is by faith we are saved, and we worship God through faith in him
, but salvation isn't earned. Nothing you or I could ever do can make up for our sin, and because God is good and merciful and loves us he came down as man, and sacraficed Himself to cleanse all humanity from sin.

"What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one." (Romans 3:9-10)

Christian BTW. But I am not one of the fundamentalist "born-again" moralist bastards. I know what I believe and if anyone wants to find out about it, by all means, I am more than happy to share.

Not if you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your saviour.

"And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation." -Hebrews 9:27-28

Stop shoving scripture down people's throat, please. Theology and apologetics are good, but when no one is listening, you are doing a disservice.

So...if you're Born Again, don't you have to get a new birth certificate?

I mean, right? Like, how can you provide your birth certificate as proof of identity if it no longer applies?

AH! Suddenly the religious freaks get defensive! "It doesn't count towards THAT!" they say!

Ah, but it DOES! In the eyes of THE LORD, this is your REBIRTH, no? A new beginning, so to speak.

Nevermind the fact that your body is already dead from the years of alcohol, drug and sexual abuse you heaped upon it...no...you're born again now.

NEW soul. NEW body. NEW life, right?

Being saved does not mean you get a new soul, but you do get a new life in the sense that God has 'wiped the slate clean' when it comes to sin in your life, and you start life anew, no longer being a slave to sin. Baptism is a symbol of this. Does that mean I have a new body right now and you can see a halo over my head? No. But I have changed my lifestyle to obey God's commandments, and I have a desire to read His Word and to worship him. While I am still on this Earth I will still have this body and be susecptable to sin, but once Jesus comes again I will have new glorified body and will be impervious to sin.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."

I think 'born again' is more of a political designation than a religious one. I am a believer but I abhor the 'born again' label.

I don't know how you can see the phrase "born again" as being political, as it is taken from the bible. I can understand how people think being Evangelical is a political statement (though I don't agree with it).

Go to a Evangelical Church myself. It is good because they are grounded in what they believe, but I have found that it leaves less time to take action. To do things that are helpful in the community.

Shoving scripture down people's throats? Am I? Sorry if offended anyone, but all I'm doing is quoting the Bible to back up what I have said, which I feel is perfectly reasonable, considering the topic of the thread. If no one is listening, that is fine, I'll stop posting if no one else replies with a remark or question.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." -Romans 1:16

P.S: Sorry for all the posts, but I wanted to respond to each person's question/statement individually.

IIRC, being born again simply means that the HS has touched your spirit with the divine spark, or spiritual baptism. It's been a while since my seminary classes.

Actually, I am in the wrong. Sorry about that. I just saw the 2 posts before my posts and I assumed flaming. Feel bad. Please accept my apologies and a cookie. :cookie:

My question was really getting at why it was even brought up. IMO, true Christians should not even consider the whole Heaven/Hell thing as an incentive to be good.

When I walk around my college campus, I constantly get asked "have you been saved?" Once I stopped and talked and the lady went on to saying how you can only get into heaven by such and such. She quoted the Bible somewhere. I asked here if a highly moral person in China that's never heard about the Bible dies, would he go to hell. She said yes, and I walked away.

I really hate that attitude. Seems so flawed, even from my agnostic perspective. In fact, I think Jesus had a lesson on judgement somewhere in the new testament.

I realize not all Christians are like this.

I would consider myself a Christian. Though over the past serveral years I haven't been doing like I should. I do pray. I just wish I was better at it.

Quoting the Bible in an argument is about as effective and valid as quoting a Tom Clancy novel.

Not always true, but when 'debating' with a non-Christian, most of the time true. When just discussing what Christians believe, it is different.

Oh man, if Tom Clancy wrote the Bible, it would be so much better.

That is hilarious! I actually want a sticker like that. That would be funny.
