My friend & I have been playing Empire Earth.. over & over :) Looking for good multiplayer games we could check out. Nothing too new, as brand new games are a bit pricy. And we prefer strategy, action, or military games.. but if it doesn't fit into one of those categories, feel free to mention it anyway.

Thanks!

Counter-Strike. old, but good. still the best multiplayer game I've ever played, with props to Starcraft too.

I second CounterStrike. The most addicting game I have ever played.

Warcraft III, available at gogamer.com for $35 . Otherwise, Starcraft is dirt cheap :) Otherwise Halo for the Xbox is the only other one I have played lately.

Medal Of Honor has got to be 1 of the top 5 games this year... excellent single player and the multiplayer is a lot of fun
Alien vs. Predator2 is very good for the same reasons... not as good as Medal of Honor
America's Army is good...takes patience, but it is free.
Warcraft 3...starcraft
Grand Theft Auto 3
Max Payne

those are the most playable games I know...u know the kind that you still get a kick out of playing 6 months later. There's more but those are the ones that come to mind.

It stands for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, a WWII fps (first person shooter)

The GOTY (Game of the Year) Edition is out now and it's around 40 dollars :D

Hey!! If you're playing Empire Earth multiplayer, then you're one of the last of a dying breed. FWIW, my name is on page 238 of the manual (Strike Team). Sierra allowed that game to die on the vine. Do *NOT* by the expansion. The X-pack is not made by the same guys that made EE.

Recommendations for RtCW are excellent suggestions. I'm mostly an RTS guy, but RtCW finally takes strategy and puts it into FPS. You and your team cannot succeed in RtCW unless you function and act as a team. In-game communcations in excellent. Excellent game.

Regarding RTS's, War3 is not really on my list of keepers. The large-scale wars you're used to in EE don't exist, and the game is somewhat more simplified for my tastes. If a rare breed, though. It must be said that the graphics are pure, gorgeous, EYE-POPPINGLY, sweet. The single-player campaigns, as you would expect from Blizzard, are phenomal. Unfortunately, I am not of a breed to fully appreciates RTS vs. the CPU. I need multiplayer. So, if you're looking RTS, wait the 6 weeks for AoM. It'll be well worth it, and full details are available at www.mrfixitonline.com.

OK.....how bout suggestions for games that I can play on the LAN with my not-much-gamer gf?

Anandtechers suggested SSSE for me to try on her first. And, that was purty cool. I was the one that told her we were going to quit drinking and go to bed at 2 a.m., after 7 hours of continuous playing. :Q

I'm thinking we need a game with a bit more to it.....maybe that she can load on her laptop, so she can hone her skills at work, eh?

The first computer game I bought was Civilization and I played that on my 386-33. Since then I have 40-50 games, some of which I have never played at all.

My downfall was Age of Empires. Bought the first, then the upgrade...played online for the first time and I was hooked. Five years later I have the latest expansion and still playing, in fact I just got off a game.

Get the game, goto msn gaming zone and prepare for battle!

Try Stronghold it is a great game with action and micro-management which makes for long game play and tough multuplayer.

ID have to Say STARCRAFT.. its been out since 99 but its still a great game, can get it and the expansion cheap now and there are tons of playters online, 30k on any given day. Its one of the best RTS gams i ahve ever played, and the single palyer is great as well. And its a national sport in Korea.... so it has to be at least a decent game right?

Day Of Defeat beats Counter Strike hands down (though CS is still a good game)
