i work every morning part time but have been looking for supplemental employment until they can take me on full time (year or so).
well, i went to Borders for an interview and after giving me a short interview, they were ready to hire. first, though, i had to take a phone test...
that phone test denied me the job.

:(

it was all questions like "have you ever lied? press 1 for yes, 3 for no"

sadness. anyone else have to take these tests...or know who makes them?

Have you ever lied? WTF kind of question is that. If you're an honest person, you press 3 because EVERYONE has lied before, and if you're a liar, you press 1 because you're a freakin liar.

Bomb the store.

"Have you ever embezzelled large amounts of money from a workplace, then fled to Mexico to avoid police? If yes, press 1, if no, press 2."

It's amazing they have any employees at all. Just for fun, my wife and I went took 3 tests like that @ hogi yogi when she was a manager there, trying to fit 3 different personas (totally honest, claiming to be totally honest, and a mix). We didn't pass any of them.

Probably something more along the lines of:

"Havn't you ever not embzzelled large amounts of money from a workplace, then not fled to Mexico to avoid police? If yes, press 1, if no, press 2"

Yea. Sister took one of them once at a store. "would you turn your grandmother in for stealing a pencil ?" She answered it honestly and didn't get the job.

What a joke those tests are. They probably paid a company big $$ to write it up also.

I remember taking some retarded test like that many years ago for a stock positition at a store right near my house. It would have been so perfect since I could have walked there in two minutes. Considering I actually am honest it was their loss. They probably hired some thug who smuggles televisions and VCRs out of the back door.

Ya, those are stupid personality test questions. You don't know what they're looking for. If you press 3 for NO then they might not want you because they know everyone's lied. If you press 1 for YES they might not want you because they don't want a liar.

Exactly! Can you imagine the idiots who think up these things based on formulas and human psychology? I wonder if those loonies could pass if one of their coworkers made one up for them if they didn't already know the "answers."

when we were in college my gf worked at fashion bug. before we left she went back to see the managers, say bye, etc. well, they were having trouble finding employees....guess why?
so my gf sits down and takes these new tests that they are forced to ask potention employees. she fails becuase she "is inclined to steal and has a bad attitude" yet she worked there for 2 years as one of their best workers.

as soon as the woman told me i needed to take one of those, i knew i was out.

Hmmmm.....the world certainly has changed since I last looked for work. All I can say about the phone thing is the jailhouse tattoo's wouldn't be as much of any issue.

That phone test is only an "out" for them so they can deny you the job nicely. Anyone who was truly hired on the spot doesn't get asked to take the phone test. It's a trap.

And no, I don't know this for a fact. :)
