Borderlands respec - costs money, but it seems like I lost skill points too.

When I did a respec on my ~level 28 soldier I think it not only cost me money but I think I only got like 23 skill points back. Is there a glitch in my game? Is this normal? Am I just imagining things?? It kind of sucks b/c it takes so long to get a skill point now.

you don't get your first point until level 5, so that sounds right to me...

Respecs always cost money in Borderlands; however, if I remember correctly, the cost is linear to the amount of points returned. Because of this, it eventually becomes incredibly small compared to the amount of money that you have. I know my 69 Siren has hundreds of millions of dollars and I believe that a respec does not even cost a hundred thousand.

As for the amount of points, 23 is correct. You do not gain any talent points until level 5.

Yeah, respeccing in Borderlands is nice. Very cheap compared to how much money you make in the game. You really only need four characters although because of the way levels work in this game I tend to start a new one every time I want to play with friends (even a small level difference leads to a large disparity in how tough you are).

Thanks guys. I forgot about the first 5 levels. I just figured you get 1 skill point per level so it seemed like it cost me 5 points to respec.

I REALLY love the idea of the respec now. I never have a problem running out of money or anything so I might respec a few times to try things out. My first attempt with Siren sucked pretty bad.

Siren can almost be like cheating. increase phase walk, shield regen, quicksilver, crits and that velocity/damage skill.

basically, the merc mod route.

when I start a new character, I just give a 9999999 weapon from one of my other characters to the new one, sell it, and jump about 6 levels in one go, heh.

Such low aspirations, zin! You should at least go for the "How Much is the World?" achievement where you amass 20 million dollars. :p
