How far into the game is the golden chest? I got an e-mail with a shift code for golden keys, but they have to be used within a few days.

Also, anyone have ideas about the best classes? I played a few minutes before work today as the lawbringer, but am only level 2 so havent used any of the powers yet. I am glad to see they continued the shift codes and the points to use to increase attributes.

Much like BL1 and BL2, there will only be one best class, so choose carefully. You don't want to be the one guy playing the inferior classes or no one will play multiplayer with you.

Unless things have changed, it's the SHIFT codes that are dated, but the keys last until you use them. So, just go to the SHIFT menu and enter the code.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of that.

Edit: my brain is about 50% today, first day back from vacation and spent 13 hours on the road yesterday!!

Not worried about that. I only play single player unless my friend comes back to town for a visit and wants to play co-op.

The support for split-screen coop is just as good as it was in the first and second game, in keeping with it's popularity in the PC gaming industry these days.

Never could figure how to do that on steam though, since you cant be logged on to two accounts at the same time. Can you open 2 instances of the game on the same account?

Been playing for a while now, and pretty much regretting not waiting for a sale. I dont really like the low gravity and oxygen mechanics. The game so far has degenerated into running from one oxygen geyser to another and trying to figure out the jumping mechanics (yes admittedly I suck at it).

huh?

If anything, there's basically just one bad class that isn't great at most things...like Brick in BL1 and Axton probably being the worst overall in BL2.

regardless, you can play all classes pretty easily. You aren't ever locked into playing one class at any point. Just start a new toon if you don't like the current one. especially on release with the lowest level caps, you can max out all classes relatively quickly.

Steam says the game has trading cards, but I don't see any listed under badges and haven't gotten any from playing. Anyone else experiencing this ?

OK, got these sometime last week in my spam mail from Gearbox. In case you guys don't have them:

BL2:

Now they just need to get cranking on bug fixes. Quite a few game breaking ones right now.

The one stopping me is that it won't let you into the first boss fight, even when you are playing solo, and have set it to offline mode. It spits out a message about "You must gather all the players before you can enter here". And it won't let you in. And without being able to enter that arena area you can't continue on in the game.

I think this is the first BL where they've actually bottle necked the game with a boss. In previous ones you could skip boss fights and continue exploring, it would just stall the main story line.

But gameplay and story are both good, and I'm enjoying what little bit of the game I can access.

Luckily I didn't run into that first boss bug.

I have a few hours in playing as Wilhelm and for the most part I am enjoying this. Really it is the same game as BL2 in a different setting, but I wasn't expecting huge changes. The low gravity is actually pretty fun during battles. Hitting a headshot while 40 feet in the air is different.

Some of the maps are a little annoying however. You have to run around hitting these air pockets and then you run into a huge lake of lava and realize you spent the last 5 minutes going the wrong way. There also seems to be a lot of covering the same ground over and over. I haven't unlocked any type of vehicles yet, so it's all a little tedious.

Some of the new beam type weapons are cool. Borderlands is all about the loot and so far I have nothing to complain about there.

No horrible bugs yet for me, except for the game locking up in the middle of one long quest and had to force reset. It actually saved part of the progress which was nice.

The maps do seem a bit more tedious than previous maps. Some story quests are certainly tedious as well, but I don't think this is anything new with Borderlands games.

Took me a while to accept the O2/jumping slam stuff, but I'm fine with it now. I managed to get a decent, very low level O2 back that gives health on O2 canister pickup, and this thing has been great. They drop so often form enemies that I never find myself thinking about O2 level. I actually ignore all of the O2 nodes, because turning them on eliminates my ability to pick up the canisters, and thus heal.

Only complaint right now is that it really seems like BL2 with new maps. Badass ranks exact same, and much of the loot is the exact same. Many of the same legendaries and gun types, just ported over.

And the completely broken Moxxi heal pistol (think Grognozzle from BL2/Tiny Tina) occurs WAY too early in this one. If you want to never die--just keep the Moxxi Probe in your inventory and never turn in that quest. I think you get it as soon as you arrive at Concordia and talk to the female version of Scooter.

Glad to see some shift codes. Thanks. I am sort of getting into the game now, Still not really a fan of the low oxygen/butt bouncing mechanics though, and as someone else said, seems like a lot of fetch quests that just involve running around the map. I am past Concordia and haven't run into any bugs yet.
