Borderlands multiplayer fail

Catch a riiiide!

I'm trying to enjoy this game online, but I can't. Which is lame because it's basically an online game.

1. 80% of the games I connect to are too laggy. I would expect some lag but not this much. I guess because it's a direct connection to other people's computers. Also the in-game multiplayer browser displays no information about latency or ping. So it's a crapshoot whether or not I'm even connecting to someone on the same continent. It's too bad they use Gamespy (didn't even know that was still around before playing Borderlands).

2. Voice chat is buggy and has to been on all the time. There's no option to make voice chat button enabled. So it just has to record every tiny gust of wind that hits the microphone and I constantly have to listen to all the mouth-breathers. This has lead me to disable voice chat entirely. I really like voice chat too, when it's setup correctly. So now I'm missing out on all voice chatter. No one seems to use the text chat in the game so I don't know whether people are ignoring me or trying to talk to me using voice. Maybe I can manually setup my microphone to only transmit while I press a certain button? When I play with someone I know we just talk over Steam voice chat, but I can't do that with random people I don't know.

3. Hmm, actually that's pretty much it 😀 - Those two issues are really big though, for me at least.

Yes, both those are very valid issues. Gamespy system is an absolutely massive POS.

I personally spend a lot of time in the official Borderlands forums, as you can set up Co-Op games with like-minded people who aren't modding idiots, mic spamming idiots, or ninja-ing idiots, etc, & they live in the same continent, so lag isn't such an issue.

Using something else for voice (Steam, Ventrilo, etc.) works fine usually, just disable ingame voice.

Right now i'm having fun doing Moxxi battles with people.

Basically, you play a round in one of the Moxxi maps against another player, the goal being to get the most kills.

Anyway, i'm still quite active in this game if you are up for playing sometime, give a holler.

Yeah I'm playin this to, Garena and Tunngle servers are a lot faster IMO. If you really want no lag just host your own server. It'll put a whoppin on your CPU though so be sure you've got a decent system if you want multiple players in the mix.

Not to mention all the port forwarding stuff you have to deal with if you want to host a game through gamespy...

Garena and tunngle servers? What are these things you speak of?

They are lan based programs that connect you with other players via virtual lan. Some games run better, some games run worse so it's best to try both your online option or these as well. I prefer these options myself as rooms are always full and it's easy to save your favorites.
