Bootup Skips BIOS?

I've got an EPoX 8K7A and put in a new AMD XP 1700. I've got my stick of 256 DDR and a GeForce2 in it, and an AMD approved power supply attached. (Nothing else plugged in, except the power on switch.) I press the power button and the motherboard status LED reads "FF" immediately. From the manual "FF - System Booting. This means that the BIOS already pass the control right to the operating system." No booting, no posting, just "FF".

The dipswitches are appropriately set for the chip, and I have already tried "autodetect." All the voltage settings are set to maximum, and there are no cooling issues.

On a side note, the system won't even power on when I put the jumper in the "Clear CMOS" position. A few other jumper settings also seem to disallow powering up.

Any ideas? Thanks,

I am not familiar with that particular mb, but is there really a problem? Have you tried the key to get into the bios right when you hit the power button?

BTW the clear the cmos setting is not to be powered on when using it. Clearing the cmos drains the power from the cmos (sort of like shorts it out).

See what your manual says, there is probably something in there that mentions getting into the bios.

Good Luck

I think indianduddawg47 is probally right, I have the 8KHA+ (pretty much same Error codes)and it posts very quickly (reads 'FF' within 1/2 second cold). if I wanna get into the BIOS, i have to hold the delete key right away, or if I wanna see the POST screen, i gotta hold the Pause Key, just as quick.
It's a safety feature, you can't power up with the Jumper set in the clear positon, that used to mean the immediate death of Epox boards!
Also try here, amdmb official Epox thread, at AmdMb, I found tons of info on my 8KHA+ and the 8K7A (i built one for a buddy).
