I just bought a gainward Geforce4 Ti 4200 w/64mb ram and when ever I boot up the screen stays blank and I hear one long beep. If you press the reset button everything starts up fine. I did try reseating the card and making sure it was tight. I used to have a radeon 7500 and that worked fine. It's not a major problem but it bugs me. It only OC's to 290 core/575 mem so maybe I should just rma it. Can anybody help me?

First of all, did you uninstall the previous ATI drivers before installing the new card? Did the black screens and beeps started AFTER you overclocked it? (cause i get the feeling that you did).

I did a complete uninstall of the ati drivers according to this description on driverhaven. Also, I didn't try overclocking the card until the day after I recieved the card and the bootup problem started as soon as I put the card in. The card did come with a mem clock of 513 instead of the normal 500 but this shouldn't matter. After about three days I put the radeon 7500 back in and it booted up without a problem so it has to be the card doesn't it?

 Link doesn't seem to work cp2001. Anyway if you can posts as complete spec a spossible this will really help to rec solutions.

:D Breifly, check the mobo (AGP2.0 & try 2x mode), PSU (300W?) and have you tried reseating the card? Do try the card in another PC if possible.

My specs are: athlon xp 1600+
shuttle Ak31 rev3.1
enlight 340watt PSU
512mb of Crucial pc2100 DDR
Soundblaster Live!sound card
Windows XP Home Edition
I did try reseating the card several times but it didn't matter. I just went and exchanged it for another one from compusa and I have the same problem with that one so it must not be the card but my system. Also, I think my link works now.

 The maximum o/c you can get (290/575) although slightly low for a 64MB 3.6ns 4200 that is not a bad o/c, still well above a 4400's 275/550, certainly not worthy of an RMA, of course 64MB will hurt you down the road.

:) Anyway, you could try playing around with BIOS settings a little, just keep a record of what you change so you can change it back if it doesn't help. Another thing to try is disabling 'fast writes' and 'side band' and ensuring you have an IRQ assigned for AGP/VGA. To me it sounds like either a strange incompatability with your mobo or the PSU having problems supplying all of the power, do you have a few IDE devices or possibly even run your case fans off the mobo headers?

I got one fo these for a great deal at newegg. $143 I think. I am able to get at least 300/580 without any hick-ups. When I try to raise the ram any more, it gets artifacts. Sheesh, time for a ram heat sink.
