how do i add or remove programs off the list?

i don't want to drag programs into startup folder. i did this while ago but i installed a fresh copy of xp so i forgot the instructions to do so.

it's like typing something in the run feature and pops up the list.

i appreciate your help, thanks.

Start/Run/Msconfig

However, there are many FREE tools that are much better than plain old msconfig. The one I like is called "Startup Control Panel". Freeware.

Install it. It puts an icon in your Control Panel called "Startup". Click on it, and you will see a tabbed box of every location Windows starts programs from (like HKEYCU\Run, HKEYLM\Run, Startup Common, etc.) You can move things from one section to another. For example, you may have something like an IM program that runs on everyone's profile but you want to limit it to yours (HKEYCU).

Here's where to get it:
