It has be dawning on me that it is taking longer and longer for my computer to start up:

I ran:http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/ and this file was created:

10:05:24 0.50 DEVICEINIT = NTKERN
10:05:27 0.44 Started Supra 2560 PCI Modem Enumerator (PCI\VEN_127A&DEV_1002&SUBSYS_0A001092&REV_01\BUS_00&DEV_09&FUNC_00)
10:05:28 0.33 Enumerating USB Root Hub (USB\ROOT_HUB\PCI&VEN_1106&DEV_3038&SUBSYS_12340925&REV_10&BUS_00&DEV_07&FUNC_02)
10:05:30 2.39 Started NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (PCI\VEN_11AD&DEV_0002&SUBSYS_F0041385&REV_20\BUS_00&DEV_0D&FUNC_00
10:05:34 6.22 Initing aic78xx.mpd
10:05:40 1.50 Initing esdi_506.pdr
10:05:42 7.89 Initing esdi_506.pdr
10:05:51 3.11 Dynamic load success RMPNPQ.VXD
10:05:54 1.61 Dynamic load success RMQUASAR.VXD
10:05:56 5.22 InitDone = TSRQuery (time estimated)

Is there anything that I could do to speed up my start-up.

I have a vague idea what some of the files are, but not all of them

Ahh....you managed to find boot log analyser, right? Good program.

Like you, my Diamond Supra takes about half a second to load. That seems to be normal, as does the time taken for the USB hub. What does seem to take a VERY long time are your SCSI drives and IDE drives to load up.

My drives take less than half a second....but then I am using the Intel ATA i8xx drivers.

You total load time seems to be over 34 seconds.....mine takes 14 seconds.

"10:05:34 6.22 Initing aic78xx.mpd" I knew that these were the Adaptec drivers, I think one reason for this, could well be the age of it.

But these three, I guess, are the culprets delaying it:

"10:05:56 5.22 InitDone = TSRQuery (time estimated)"
"10:05:42 7.89 Initing esdi_506.pdr"
"10:05:51 3.11 Dynamic load success RMPNPQ.VXD"

I do recall that my boot up time was much longer when I installed the Via 4.25, do you think that this was the problem?

Which OS are you using here?

Can't do much about the TSRQuery time.

esdi_506.pdr is taking FAR too long...that's the IDE driver.

AMB,

Microsoft also have such a software it is called dv.exe (device viewer) - I got this from a
friend. I find this dv programs details very confusing to follow.

I have used Boot Log Analyser for a few years.I checked my BLA result against yours and they match very closely including the Adaptec SCSI delay of just over 6 secs.

I have Win Me, but it has defintly become quicker with that installed.

Subman, from you Win Me Tips, could you send me the reg file for the Max Cache, I cannot get it to work when I create it, thanks very much,

This may help My E-mail
