put together some spare parts i had laying around into a machine for the dc project eccp. being so i didn't have an extra keyboard/mouse/video card and the motherboard doesn't have onboard video.

now to the question, how do i boot without the aformentioned parts. i just get beeps when booting which tells me that it didn't boot.

some helpful info:
ECS K7VZM board rev 1.1 or something low like that
Award Bios
WinXP, or win98se possible to install

for the keyboard part, you can set it to ignore the "no keyboard error" and as far as the vid car is concerned, I beelive the beep code you are given is telling you there is a video error, which there is, caseu you don't have one. THough I do have this question, with out any display, or keyboard, how will you be able to enter in basic information like the cd-key/activation codes, or even just the "ok" button? Even a basic cheapy vid car with 1 meg is enough, and those can be had here for less than 10 bucks and a keyboard can be had for abotu 10 also. So buck up and buy antoher $20 bucks worth of stuff...

serial connections are enough to run server OSes (most UNIXish OSes). And linux would be great for this setup. Booting without video really depends on the harware I believe. I dont have a keyboard/mouse on my Linux machine and it boots just fine.

thanks for the offer MoMeanMugs but no isa slots

see i've been thinking about installing linux on a machine but i don't think im comfortable enough with it yet, but this might be my breaking point. then again getting el cheapo vidcard seems easy enough

absolutely wrong. I have a Dell Dimension here with a V3 3000 and it just booted up without the video card. I even got the music Win98 plays when it loads.

Iamwiz, I am curious as to how you did this, did you have to disable something? normally you just get beep codes during POST until you power off and insert a video card.
