Booting Up Window Problem

Well starting last week, when i turned on my computer it worked fine until it froze at the Welcome menu for windows. If i waited 5 minutes there would be nothing on my desktop such as my shortcuts etc. So when this happenens i have to restart my computer until it passes the welcome menu and for my shortcuts on my desktop to show up.
Do u guys know how i can fix this problem? I tried scanning my computer with spyware prorgrams and norton but nothing was found.
