Booting to DOS in Windows XP: how?

I need to update my mobo bios and am planning on doing it in DOS using AwardFlash.

I have created an MS DOS boot disk and a disk containing AwardFlash and the new Bios. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. How do I get my system to boot into DOS from the disk? Please explain it as simply as possible!

put the floppy in, set bois to boot from floppy first. Nothing to be done in windows.

USB boot support depends on the mainboard. Most recent boards can be set to boot to a "removable drive" in the BIOS setup. Internal floppy drives are also considered "removable drives" (but for some reason optical drives get their own listing). Check your mainboard manual for the exact location but it's usually in something like "advanced chipset features"; you might have to drill down through a couple of menu levels to get to the device boot order.

And, if your BIOS doesn't support USB boot, and you have no floppy, you can create a bootable CDR with all the flashware on it.

If you have an inernal floppy drive, that is the way to go.

As it turns out my BIOS is more up to date than I realised so I don't need to flash. Still at least I know for the future.
