My rig, Asus A7V KT133chip set with a 750mhz T bird and 256 meg of pc 100 mhz ram seems to take toooo long loading. It reaches s spot where it shows the IRQ etc and just hangs for 30 seconds. The hard drive light is out and nothing happens. Then it just completes the booting. My son's new 1.2ghz Tbird boots really fast. Where mine hang. ,his flys past.
Is this just my brd type? What is my comp. doing for the 30 seconds?

frustrated!!!!

what OS's are you and your son running?
also, how long have you had the 2 systems for?
your son's would be new, as yours would be slightly dated, right? that would mean he's running a fresh OS install while you've had yours running for a while. (fresh install = faster cuz there's less stuff "floating" around doing nothing) maybe your comp. has started to get bogged down from temp. files and what not...

one more thing, how much stuff do you make your comps. load in an initial boot? stuff in the task bar and stuff on the desktop can significantly slow down boot up. if you can, try to organize your start button, it works great and keeps all the junk to a minimum. 🙂

good luck

I had this same problem, except it was my mothers athlon 750 vs my athlon 1200 .. we're both using abit kt7as.. her's just sat there for about 30 seconds after 'verifying dmi pool data', then started booting windows .. I don't know why, but when I moved her ram around it began working fine. She's got 2 64mb pc100 sticks though .. you could try moving yours into the 2nd or 3rd dimm slots and see if that helps ..

Oh, btw, if you can still see the irq listing, and don't see 'starting windows 98' or whatever you use, then it has nothing to do with windows, so don't waste your time reformatting.. this is happening *before* the os starts booting.

I forgot to mention that my os is winme. My son has the same.Mine waites for about 30 seconds at the window that
displays the CPU type and ram amt and speed. Below that are the drives and under that the PCI device listings. The light
indicating HD activite is out. After 30 secs it comes on and starts loading windows and all the other little programc in the tray.

This machine arrived this way from the first time I turned it on.
