Booting problems

I get a \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file missing error when I boot up my computer.

I tried changing the registry hives using the method outlined on the MS website. When I boot with a XP-CD and get into the recovery console it and choose the number "1" for instalation locations I get a BSOD...

Is there a fix for this problem?

I am using XP-Home edition...

There's always a fix. 🙂

Choices:
1. Boot with a Bart's PE Boot CD and do the procedure described in the MS KB article.
2. Do an XP Home parallel install (to, say, C:\XPHOME) and then you can do whatever you want

#1 is easier and faster.

I have not been able to aceess AT frequently since my laptop went bad 🙁

Thanks for the information. I will try using the Bart's PE Boot CD and hopefully will get my data back.
