Booting problems

If anyone could point me to a good FAQ or post about this I'd be grateful!

I built a machine a couple months back that had no problems starting out. But eventually something happened, and now whenever I press the box's power button, it posts, then loads the OS up to the welcome screen. then, when I punch in my password the computer reboots.

So, I let it reboot, then do my thing again, and it'll do the same thing. I found a way around it, but actually hitting the power switch on the power supply off, then turning it back on and repeating the above process, at which time the computer is fine.

I'm clueless as to what is wrong here. I upgraded the bios by flash, and I've re-seated everything. My video card is not overclocked, I even tried underclocking to no avail. I have a Gainward FX 5900xt 256MB card, and I do have a rail devoted to it, and it alone from my power supply. I have a 400 watt powersupply, which i think would suffice, since I'm not running anything too elaborate...but ya never know.

Here is my system:

Tyan Tiger K8WS mobo
AMD Opteron 146
2 sticks of 512 MB corsair XMS 400mhz
Gainward FX 5900XT 256MB
Audigy 2 card
120 MB SATA Maxtor HDD
Sony DVD-RW drive (can look up specs later)
And about 3 case fans.

Nothing too elaborate.
Can anyone help me out with some ideas as to what it could be? I have a 650w power supply in the mail, and I'll get it tomorrow. If that fixes it I'll holler.

Till then...

Well, I installed my new power supply two days ago, and then let my system set for a day. I turned it on, and low and behold! It didn't reset itself!

I was happy for about 3 minutes, until I clicked on CS:S, and then my machine rebooted.

It was painful. So I guess my Gainward FX5900 XT just doesn't cut it. I guess somewhere along the line it pooped on me, so I'll cruise the video forums and find ask for help on finding a replacement.

Curse mid range video cards.
