Hi,

I just installed SuSe 9.1 on my A64 system. After the install, everything worked great!
Ran the update program called 'YOU', let it download a few hundred megs of updates (newest kernel, XFree86 etc..) after which it wouldn't boot anymore..
The bootloader works fine, but after detecting the hard drives, I've got this message (linux is installed on hde3):

Waiting for device /dev/hde3 to appear: ok
umount: invalid option -n
umount: invalid option -n
ReiserFS: hde3: found reiserfs format "3,6" with standard journal
ReiserFS: hde3: using ordered data mode
reiserFS: hde3: using flash barriers
ReiserFS: hde3: journal params: device: hde3, size 8192, journal first block 18, max trans len 1024, max batch 900, max commit age 30, max trans age 30
ReiserFS: hde3: checking transaction log (hde3)

After which it won't do anything anymore.
The hard drive light is constantly burning, HD is not making any sound and I've waited for almost 2hrs before I resetted the machine (with ctrl+alt+del, which worked so the system did not crash)
HD layout:
17.5Gb mounted as /
2Gb mounted as swap
2 other windows partitions.
total: 120Gb maxtor IDE 7200rpm

The system does not have any problems with one of my other drives
3 other SATA drives, 2 maxtor one WD raptor.

Does anyone has any ideas about this problem?
Sorry for any typing errors, English isn't my native language...

Thanks!

Downloaded Knoppix, and ran 'reiserfsck' to check the filesystem, did every check the program offered.
But, it didn't help any of it. It did report that the drive was marked as 'not nicely unmounded' or something like that.
I also booted the SuSe install DVD which has a repair option. It did say the file system had errors, but the 'Repair' button didn't do anything!
Even if it is rebuilding everything, it should not take that long. The drive only has a few used GB's..

Reinstall?

I had a reiser mess up right after an install once. I went with xfs the next time and everything was fine. I'm back with reiser again and everything's great.

But when I booted Knoppix I did had access to the drive, I could add/remove files etc all worked fine..

Also send an e-mail to SuSe support, let's see what the've got to say about it..
