Booting off Exteral Drive??

Hello I just recieved my shuttle yesterday and I was trying to set it up today.

ShuttleX SBG652 is the system that i currently have.

Now I bought the memory, videocard, processor and a HD for it.

Now I didnt buy a DVD or CD drive cause I though I could use my external USB drive. Which is an Iomege Predator USB.

I boot up and press Del to go into my Bios and see that for IDE Channel 1 Master it says ST3160023A. This seems correct since only IDE thing I have connected is my hard drive. I save settings and then it goes to the next screen and it reads of everything in my system and it says "disk boot error". Now this is where I am stuck.

I have my external Iomega USB Predator drive connected which I have put the CD that came with my Seagate Hard drive in it but nothing happens. I put my Windows XP cd in there and still gives me same disk boot error. I see that my external drive is spinning but nothing is happening as to it doing something on screen.

Can someone please help me out as to what I should do. Should I buy an internal IDE DVD drive? or do you think there is something wrong in the bios or any other fault.

Any help I would greatly appreciate.

Look for boot from other devices option in bios and make sure it's enabled.
Look for boot order option in bios and make sure USB or other device (whichver is your option) is there.
Make sure the external USB drive has been formatted / installed in such a way that it is indeed bootable.

I made a USB Key bootable and the above worked for me.
