The motherboard on my laptop has a defective CDROM slot, and I'm trying to install a new internal hard drive. I copied the 2 recovery CD's (they are bootable) for my laptop to my 20 GB Mp3 player. It is also a USB 2.0 hard disk, so I assume I can set it up to boot the laptop.

I don't have a floppy drive either.

So far I can't get the laptop to boot off the Archos, any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Well, are you positive that that your laptop supports a USB device drive as boot option? You would need to consult our manual. You can check quickly in your laptop BIOS to see if that is an option. Also I believe, there is file within the the boot CD you copied over that points it towards the CD not your USB device.

you cant just copy the cds over and assume the would boot, where did you put the boot sector?
aside from that, while your device functions as a hard drive, it doesnt necissarily mean it is a bootable device. Most models I have looked at arents.
