booting from windows cd

i have an old computer im trying to resurrect and i put the windowsxp cd into the cdrom drive
the hard drive is empty
i turn on comp and it says checking for bootable cd
i tries to boot from it but fails
it says code 5
press a key to reboot

how do i get around this
