Booting from Win2K CD problem...NTLDR not found

Help a dummy out. I have a motherboard with apparently a bad FDD controller and
I was at least trying to get the machine to boot with my Windows 2000 CD but I get
this NTLDR not found message. I have a Seagate drive utilities CD and a Win98SE CD,
both of them boot.

Could be a bad disc, bad piece of hardware, etc. I suggest borrowing a floppy drive and booting from the 4 install discs.

Try this, I found it a while back, but can't remember where I got it from:

1. Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
2. At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
3. Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
Typically this will be #1
4. Enter in the administrator password when requested
5. Enter in the following commands (X: is replaced by the actual drive letter that is assigned to the CD ROM drive.
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C\:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
6. Take out the CD ROM and type exit

Oops just found the problem. I had the hard drive in there but not hooked up, hooked it up
and it boots okay now.

Yeah, I had that message a few days ago. It means it can't find or read the boot device. In my case it was because my HD wasn't in the boot sequence and nothing bootable was.
