Booting from USB hard drive question

I recently purchased an external USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure.

I have a 160GB WD hard drive that I put in it. Previously, I had this as my primary hard drive. It still has the operating system and all the files it had when it was attached via the IDE connection.

I have my bios set up to boot from a USB HD. It gets about 1/2 way to windows and then cuts out and reboots.

any ideas what the problem is?
