Booting from PX-716SA

It seems like I've googled and searched endlessly on this issue, but to no avail, so I've come to what I think is a reputable forum. 🙂

Okay, the deal is this: I recently installed a Plextor PX-716SA DVD burner into my A7N8X-Deluxe system, and only now do I need it to boot off a bootable DVD (a Linux installation disc, to be exact). I've tried setting the boot order to include SCSI, which strangely is the setting ASUS uses to boot from SATA. No dice. Whenever the boot process reaches that critical point, the system hard-locks and I have to reset.

I've tried updating the system BIOS to the latest version and updating the drive's firmware to the most recent, but still, this drive refuses to boot, even though it works perfectly inside Windows and FreeBSD.

It's now that I beseech the help of AnandTech forum members everywhere. Thanks in advance for any advice and/or comments you may have.

There was a time when the chipsets (esp.RAID, SATA) would do this with no problems, however for some time Optical Drives needs tweaked and are limted with Booting because the newer drives require UDMA and/or drivers when booting...it is possible but @ limited speeds...most SATA's will go only @ 2X instead of the Drives Max speed.

A few things to try:

Load SATA single Driver before moving on
Turn off any RAID via SATA hook up and set it as a single
Boot off of SATA and then ATA or vise versa before HD's when Booting
Unable UDMA
Use 1 SATA to PATA converter, hook it up and try it thataway...or maybe even via USB.
