hi,
does anyone know if i can boot an older imac (which has 10.2) with a 10.5 disc?
I need to use the disk utility to wipe the drive.

thanks!

http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/

General requirements

* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

minimum system requirements

* 512MB of memory
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple's .Mac service; fees apply.

So its gonna depend on which iMac it is.

If the older mac has 10.2... I am not sure if it will boot or not. The next question is, is this a retail Leopard disk, or one that came with a Mac? If the latter then it will not work. You could however hook the two up over firewire and boot the imac into target disk mode, service it that way.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure as long as there's PPC binaries on the disc, that the disc will boot, but may not install 10.5 because of sys requirements.
