So I built a new system comprising of these parts:

Q6600
Gigabyte P35 DS3L
Corsair 620hx
1GB x 2 OCZ Reapers
sata 320GB WD HDD
ide LG dvd-rom

I can get into bios and POST screen just fine. I put a XP installation cd into the drive (which was set to start first) turn the PC on, but it wouldn't do anything but tell me that I've got a boot disk failure.

BIOS detects the HDD just fine, that's about it though.

Currently there are 3 partitions on it, 2 with data and one that has a cloned image of my XP from my old PC. That shouldn't make a difference since my XP install disc SHOULD initiate iirc.

Any ideas?

edit - used 2 different optical drives and 2 different xp installation cds. One that was used for my previous build and another that has MCE05.

Check if it will boot from a memtest cd or any Linux live cd.

Can the XP cd be read on another pc?

I'm assuming that bios recognizes the cd also.

I got it fixed, dunno why bios wasn't recog'ing my optical drive one moment, then seeing it there the next. I probably had something loose. Thanks!
