It's a relatively quick laptop, and I've seen some others' boot charts, how do I make it quick like yours?!

Your chart looks normal. If you'll notice...

ureadahead is eating up a lot of time. This is normal too.

You can turn off ureadahead, but then your performance will suffer.

Soooo, if you're only interested in lower boot times, and don't care about performance, kill ureadahead.

That's one thing. Another is...

You can speed up boot times by using 'profiling'.

Picked at random: How to: Speed up ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat boot time with profiling

I did this, a while back. I don't *know* if it actually made a difference (I didn't do an A/B comparison) but it certainly didn't hurt anything... 😉

Hm didn't do much that I can tell. ~30seconds isn't bad, I just keep hearing about these 10 or 20 second boot times and it's making me jealous. Does a faster CPU affect boot time? Just curious.

Unless I SEE a boot chart, I generally disregard those claims. Hell, some ppl are using a stop watch. LoL!

Having said that, I HAVE seen a few sub-10 sec boot charts...

Yeah, they do. But, solid-state drives (SSD) make a huge difference.

Fast CPU & SSD is killer!
