I've been trying to create a bootable USB that has memtest on it.
I've tried downloading the ISO from memtest.org and following the instructions from their site, within linux, it said files copied and so on but it would only boot to a black screen with a flashing cursor.

so i downloaded the memtest86+ usb installer for windows and installed that on a usb from within windows, and the same result. tried a different usb key with the same result.

i know that my motherboard works for booting USB because I can boot from a USB key I have with Ubuntu on it just fine.

am I doing something wrong or what?? lol

Is the USB stick formatted as FAT32?
Also: it's not unusual to be required: to connect the USB stick to the rear USB port adjacent to the PS/2 ports, for it to be bootable.
(In other words: only some USB ports may be selected as bootable; usually not every USB port is bootable.)
Then: with the USB stick connected, use the motherboard's boot drive select menu key (usually F10 or F11) to select the USB stick as the boot drive.
