Bootable hard drive formatting program

I had Windows Vista Home premium installed on my system and am attempting to upgrade it to one of beta versions of Windows 7. I used the "Advanced Drive" options during the Windows 7 setup to format my drive, but I'm not sure that did the trick.

Anyway, I'm looking for a bootable program that can be burned onto a CD and used to reformat my hard drive. I'm sure there are some obvious choices, but I've never really had to use one. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Windows format command doesn't erase data it just rewrites the file table. Best to use something like DBAN as suggested and just overwrite the first couple hundred sectors to clear out the old boot data.
