Hi all,

I'd like to get Windows 2000 Server install onto a NTFS striped volume under dynamic disks. Is there any way to get the installation utility to to identify a dynamic disk stipe set as one drive?

I remember Tom's Hardware had a guide on this a while ago, and they said it couldn't be done...but maybe something has changed since then. Or maybe they just didn't know what they were talking about.

Anyway, it's Windows 2000 Server with SP3 slipstreamed onto the disc. Let me know, thanks.

You can only mirror the system or boot drive. It would be smarter to use hardware RAID anyway.

Yep, you really want to do this, get a Promise raid controller and stripe it there. This isn't a limitation that will be removed. Think about what your asking, the OS needs to boot from the volume, but the drivers it needs to read the stripe set are on the disk. It can't read the disk to load the drivers, because the drivers it needs aren't loaded yet. Nice catch-22.

Short answer: Can't be done.

Long answer: You can do it like this...use a small portion of one drive as a standard partition and boot from that. Use the remainder of the drive + another one as a stripe set. You'll have some leftover space on the other drive but you can put goat porn on that.
