Bootable DVD? Anyone done it?

I build systems for companies and for home users, and one thing I have been toying with is the idea of a bootable DVD.

I ifgure with the OS, Office XP, the usual software I install, my ghost images would be about 3GB maximum.
If i could do a bootable DVD and then do an auto ghost type of thing it owuld make life allot easier when rebuilding systems.

Anyone tried this ?

SaigonK, not talking about the auto-Ghosting, why can't a DVD be bootable like a CD-Rom? 😕

your bios would have to support it, ie, carry drivers to run the dvd-rom drive. but that's about all i think.

I'm pretty sure my software allows me to make bootable DVDs. If no one comes up with an answer in a couple of hours I'll make one and let you know.

ghost lets you burn a bootable cd/dvd if you back up to that media when you're making the image.

there is a distro of linux out that boots on dvd called Morphix

I know that ghost lets you burn to CD, but I am not sure about DVD.
That would be cool, then i could just throw it in and go!

doesn't nero have that option? of course you'd need a bootable floppy i'd assume, like the way it makes bootable cds.


as for ghost, the latest version supports dvd/rw

yup, i do. DVD+R which my other systems can actually read...

using nero to create a bootable DVD iso with ghost images. it's not auto or anything, but it's more flexible than other solutions... since i can fit a buttload of stuff on it... oh, floppy emulation btw with a win98se bootdisk image.

all your system has to do is be able to boot with an optical drive, and a drive capable of reading the media. that's all. it's no different booting with a DVD than a CD.
