Bootable CD Binary File

Does anyone know how the binary boot file is written to a cd to make it bootable. I dont mean how do you make a bootable cd in nero, i know ho to do that. I want to know what nero does to make the cd bootable. Does it extract the binary file and then write it? Does it just write the binary to the cd? If anyone knows exactly what happens and how it is done i would appreciate any feedback!

Look up "El Torito" that's the name for it. CDs emulate floppies or hard disks (depending on how big the boot media needs to be).
