hey
some time back, i was trying to trouble shoot my gentoo installation and I came across this bios program that would give me options to boot from cd/floppy etc even if the inbuilt bios didnt support it.

I tried finding it but have had no luck so far...

Have any of you guys heard of such a program?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

perhaps you refer to a utility to make a media device bootable that was not previously bootable (eg USB flash drive)?

no...this program actually gave me a sudo-bios screen...with options like 1st boot device...2nd boot device etc. and on restart, it would boot from the selected device.

so the main aim of this bios program was to give more options to a user who has a limited bios.

i guess its lost forever now...!

FOUND IT!

http://btmgr.webframe.org/index.php3?body=about.html

Smart Boot Manager (SBM) is an OS independent and full-featured boot manager with an easy-to-use user interface. There are some screen shots available.

The main goals of SBM are Absolutly OS independent, Flexable and Full-Featured. It has all of the features needed to boot a variety of OSes from several kinds of media, while keeping its size no more than 30K bytes. In another words, SBM does NOT touch any of your partitions, it totally fits into the first track (the hidden track) of your harddisk!

SBM now supports booting from floppy, harddisk and CD-ROM. ZIP and LS-120 are planned to be supported recently.
