Hi Gammaray,

the "66666" is in reference (and attempt at humor) to the strange spam postings in the forums today with all the 6's.

OK, boot BIOS CD: I thought what you wanted to do was to boot into DOS so you could do a BIOS flash.

The process as I have done it:

boot with simple DOS (I still have floppies in my systems.....)
flash BIOS

So, I thought you wanted a CD that would boot DOS.

What are you trying to do?

Dear Gamma,

here are some links to flashing BIOS using a CD:

References Dells, but, is applicable to all motherboards:

http://www.bay-wolf.com/bootcd-bios.htm

In an Ubuntu forum, but, looks like it will work; first link dead, need to use last link on page to get boot image:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=190615

From MSI:

http://216.158.218.35/support/images/BIOS_CD.pdf

From a forum:

I've not had a floppy drive in my rig for over 3 years, you can indeed flash your BIOS using a Win98SE / WinME boot CD.

simply boot from the CD and keep pressing the F8 key, from the menu select 'Safe Mode Command Promt Only' , Cd to the Directory containing the BIOS file and flash util, then just flash like normal, reboot and your away.

I've NEVER used a floppy to flash my bios, I don't know what the myth is with having to use one...

oh well each to their own I guess...

Maybe a dumb question, sorry, but, have you flashed a BIOS before? Very possible to turn your motherboard into a paperweight if you run into problems. (Don't interrupt the flash, for instance....)

Which motherboard, and which flash utility does mobo manufacturer use?

yeah i am aware of all the problems that might occur when flashing a bios, thx for the concern tho, i appreciate. Mobo is M3A78 in my system 2 link. So Asus offer bios live update but seeing how people on the forum distrust asus live update i prefer to do it the old way.

Thank you for the links NXIL. BTW wouldn't you have links to Overclocking a 7750 by any chances?

Hi Gamma,

so, for that M3A78, you boot into DOS, then use the

Afudos BIOS update tool V2.38

to flash the BIOS.....hope that it works out OK.

OCing the 7750: great looking CPU for about 80 bucks, by the way:

ok, i updated my bios using easy flash inside the bios itself. I tried with Afudos BIOS update tool V2.38 but it didn't work.
Somehow, the emulated DOS didn't recognize my SATA dvd/cd Player (i'm guessing that's the reason) Mscdex thingy and D:MSCD001 driver were not found... i've looked into config.sys or autoexec.bat but they seemed fine to me.

so all i had to do was to put the bios M3A78-asus-0804.rom on a cd then get into the bios and use easy flash.

Cool....glad to hear that it went well!

Glad you ordered the Black Edition, too, and didn't accidentally get another version...that doesn't exist.
