Boot up wants to install hardware I don?t have

I just reformatted my hd and reinstalled Win98SE. I have successfully installed all the drivers I believe I need and all hardware seems to be working fine. But one thing is very annoying. Every time I boot up, Windows tells me it can?t find the software (drivers) for two components. The first shows as an ?unknown device? and the second as a ?PCI Multimedia Audio Device?. My Soyo 7VCA mb has on board sound but I have disabled it in the bios since I have a SB 512 installed (and working fine).

Anyone have any ideas on what these devices might be and how I can either give windows what it wants (what drivers) or how I can keep these windows from coming up every time I boot up?

Thanks in advance. Ron

Take a screen shot of your device manager screen with the appropriate (sound card) sections opened up and post it so we can see what is going on..

Try rebooting in safe mode, remove all sound under device manager and then reboot again
normally. The unknown device may be something like a usb hub that needs to have drivers
installed from a floppy. Am not an expert good luck.

Check and make sure you have the onboard sound disabled completely. With VIA chipsets you have two places for the onboard sound.

How do I post a screen shot in an anandtech forum? Never did before. Have two 28K .jpgs but don't know how to post them. Below is the post that was to go with them. It shows an
"Other Devices" category with two entries below it. The first is the PCI multimedia device and the second is the PCI serial controller. Both have yellow question marks on the left.

Thanks. Here is what I have come up with.
First, attached are the screen shots (sorry about the poor quality but I did my best to keep the size down). It shows yellow question marks by the two devices I can't find drivers for (and don't know what they are). As long as I don't remove these, I can boot without windows detecting the hardware. Sould I just live with them here? Yesterday I had removed them and they tried to install every time I rebooted.

I verified in my bios that the on board game port is aleady disabled.

I do have via chipsets but I could only find one place in the bios for disabling the onboard sound.
