Lately, for no reason at all, when I power on my system, I get nothing on my monitor. My monitor will stay in a sleep mode. I'll power off the system, and try again. Usually on the third try, it'll start up normally. Once it does start normally there are no problems, the system will run fine.

Can this be a power supply issue? My system:

MSI K7 Pro
Athlon 500@700 with Afterburner GFD
256 PC-133 Infineon
Kenwood 72X
HP 8200i CD-RW
CLA2

Appreciate any thoughts.

maybe the battery for your motherboard is going flat? or your power supply is dying?

how old is your system?

The mobo is not even a year old. The power supply is about 1 year and 10 months old.

Its almost like a car that doesn't start when its cold. Once my system is runnin for a while, if I shut down then restart, no issues. It seems to have this problem when my system has been off for several hours.

Hmm...did you try reseating the ram, cpu and/or video card? Also, does it beep at all? If it does let me know the patterns of the beeps(like b---- b b b) I'd try taking everything out except the video card, ram and cpu and try booting it up...If it works, put the components back in 1 at a time untill it stops working again(if it does) PM me if this works/doesnt work...

how many watts is your power supply? i am thinking along the lines of insufficient power since your system is rather new.

or as ICSVortex says some of your components may be acting up cos they are loose or something.

Ya, I had problems with my comp not booting up alot, a few of them I had to reseat the video card, and another time, the ram slots were getting to dusty so I had to vaccum them off and put the ram back in...I havent had a problem in quite a while now...dust = evil.

Thanks for the good info guys. I just realized my car analogy was wrong. I shut down and restarted immediately and it wouldn't boot again. I shut down and carefully vacumed and blew out some dust. After that it powered up fine. Not sure if the dusting did the trick or it did the usual intermittant thing. I'll see what happens and then try what ICSVortex suggested if it continues. I'll let ya know very soon. Oh yeah, I'll let ya know what the MSI LED lights read when it does it again. I just remembered that this mobo has those diagnostic LEDs. Thanks again :)

Try setting your cpu back down to 500 and see if that helps. And reseating everything could also fix it.

If I were you, I'd sell the mobo and cpu off on the FS/T forum and switch over to socket a :)

Set your bios to detect video card from AGP (default is usually PCI). Fixed my problem. It would hang with the monitor in suspend after a restart...

i had this problem with an old p75, it might sound dumb but i took the video card out(PCI at the time) and on the advice by the guy who built it, too n eraser to the contacts and it seemed to polish it up. Strangly enough it never happened again. and i had previously tried to reseat the card too

Sugadaddy: Its already set to AGP, been that way from the start.

Its kinda strange how it'll boot fine after the 2nd, but mostly third try.
