boot up problem in win 2k runs windows installer

I have a computer with win 2k that soon after it starts up it launches the windows installer. even if i press cancel it starts up 3 times and after the 3rd time automatically goes to shutdown and restarts.
how do i stop this from happening? I think it started after I tried to install sp2 to the system and the computer froze up as it was installing the patch.
