My wife's laptop has become quite picky about when it wants to display to work properly.
During the startup I can see the bios splash/HP logo screen, I can see the windows loading bar at the bottom and finally the Vista Windows icon, but nothing after that. The screen powers off and will not power back on.
At first I attributed this to a windows auto update. I booted to safemode (which I CAN See) and removed the latest updates. Restart and still have the same problem.
I start it in recovery mode and pick a date from last week when it was working fine. I restart and can login. I disable auto-update, do a system backup and do some surfing to see how it acts. Everything worked. No issues until last night when she went to use it.
It was back to the old antics of not displaying the login screen.
Any ideas? It's out of warranty (purchased '06) and the only thing HP wants me to do is reload windows via the HP recovery.
The specs are:
120gb HDD
AMD Turian
Nvidia GO 6150
1GB ram
Windows Vista Home
Maybe boot to safemode with network support and uninstall all Nvidia drivers????
What else?
