Yep, press F8 after post and enter safe mode. Uninstall the driver for the video card. Then reboot to normal mode. Then when you get to the desktop in normal mode, windows will have installed a generic vid driver. Make sure your antivirus software is disabled and install the radeon driver. Then reboot. all should be well. If you still get the error, there is a legitimate conflict with the driver and something on your system, or XP and you should uninstall it again and find an older version of the driver.

Are you running Windows XP? What video card do you have? It seems that the latest ATI Catalyst and nVidia Forceware drivers are more stable than ever before so they should work fine as long as there isn't something else wrong. It's possible to prevent the auto-reboot so you might be able to see an error message. You may have to do this in safemode. Right click "My Computer" and left click "Properties" to bring up "System Properties" window. Click "Advanced" tab, click "settings" and unders "System Failure" section uncheck the box labeled "Automatically Restart".
